Here it is another week and another episode of Junkiosity – the Pod! Matty & Dan the Man are once again sharing with you their knowledge about absolutely nothing! Here are some helpful links from today’s conversation:
Dan is the creator of Stick Man Tim Comics, which can be found on Facebook. Be sure to “like” the page to get new comics 3 times a week as well as info on upcoming projects!
Matty is still trying to get Dan to dig on Spotify, a great service that gives you access to thousands of music tracks from just about every artist known to man! It’s free to set up an account, click this link to give Matty some referral love! And if you follow @Junkiosity on Twitter, we love you long time!
They discussed artists that continue to churn out the same exact stuff over and over and over and over again instead of mixing it up or providing some different take on their old stuff.
Yes, Family Video does have a contest where you can win a part in “Sharknado 2”!
Dan’s scary movie choices? “Jaws” & “Saw“. Matty’s scary movie as a child was “Kingdom of the Spiders” with William Shatner. They both actually agree that the really scary things are those that could actually happen. Eerie…
“Marquee” movies have fallen by the wayside because the whole movie business has changed. Although “Battle of the Network Stars” is long gone, there is some semblance of it in “Dancing with the Stars“…
They also agreed that readers often have a specific type of person in mind when it comes to bringing books & comics to the big screen. Case-in-points were Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey or Ben Affleck as Batman.
Getting a little political, both said that Michigan’s choice to reduce the movie tax rebate was a bad move. Better to have 50% of something than 100% of nothing and in the long-term more movies might have been produced in the state.
Today’s generation of kids have missed out on a lot from “cassingles” to going to the video store and renting videos based on the box art. Roger Barr @ I-Mockery talks about movies based on their box art, including “The Video Dead” which was a horrible movie but the box art ruled!
Matty recalls the first video he ever rented, which as geeky as he is pinpoints the exact copy of “Dawn of the Dead“.
Favorite Halloween costume for Matty? The Gene Simmons Kiss costume from the late 1970’s. Dan was afraid of Kiss thanks to a 12-inch figure someone had brought to school. Matty has been a fan of Kiss since seeing them perform on the Paul Lynde Halloween Special & he mistook Witchipoo for the Wicked Witch of the West (sorry!). Dan’s favorite costume? A homemade headless horseman costume that his dad came up with.
Trunk or Treats are the bomb, both Matty & Dan wished they were around when they were young. Dan rails against people giving away apples, toothbrushes, pencils, pennies, & religious literature. Dan also shares a secret that he once donned 2 costumes to double-up on candy one Halloween & being grounded from trick or treating another year because of a rumor that he was going to vandalize a house.
Both are going out of their gourds because their kids are still undecided as to what they want to go as for Halloween. Matty discusses some of the banned costumes such as the “sexy leopard” for toddlers, the “mental patient“, & the “suicide bomber“. Matty is a Grinch because he no longer gives out candy on Halloween. If you make the effort to dress up you shouldn’t get any candy BUT there is the concern about getting a “trick“.
Matty rails on parents that shuttle their kids from house to house via mini-van, parents who trick or treat with kids too young to eat candy.
Until next week!
