Looks like we’ve begun to make it into the big time! We’ve just gotten word from TuneIn Radio that Junkiosity – The Pod will be added to their channel listings! You can check out the broadcast link HERE or search for “Junkiosity” on the TuneIn Radio app for iTunes & Android! We’re still waiting to hear from Stitcher Radio (which may take a little longer for approval), that one would mean a whole lot more for the podcast due to the ability to “profit share” based on listeners & allow us to get sponsors for the show! We’ll keep you updated as things develop!
This week we talked all about dolla dolla bills y’all thanks in part to Dan the Man’s comment last week relating to the Barenaked Ladies song, “If I Had a Million Dollars“.
Mr. Liu (of whom Matty says is the Sir Richard Branson of China) bought a Ming Dynasty ceremonial tea cup for $34 million dollars and upset many by posting photos of himself drinking from it. They feel it is not being handled respectfully, Mr. Liu says he wanted to share in the experience that a Chinese emperor had centuries ago. Some people have too much money…
The gang talked about what they would do with a million dollars (and not Lawrence’s idea). Of course there is the practical, but the gang wanted to get to the extremes. Matty suggested maybe buying the world’s most expensive hot sauce or collecting some of the world’s most expensive beers (especially collecting all twelve of Brew Dog’s The End of History bottles – taxidermy bottles? Cool!).
The gang discussed how casinos are starting to really stick it to their patrons by lowering payouts on blackjack, effectively milking them for an extra $3 per hand on average.
Matty shared a little of a message from fellow Junkie Rachel that related to a previous pod about people using food stamps to buy junk food. He also shared a story about a gentleman that is buying homeless people’s panhandling signs in an effort to connect with and help them.
A sad reality as of late is this article that found 1 in 3 Americans have some form of debt collection ongoing. Las Vegas, Dallas, Houston, & some other southern cities have almost 1/2 their population in some form of debt collection status. Stagnant incomes, low-paying jobs, medical care costs are some of the reasons behind it.
Toby Keith has been named the top-earning country music artist of 2014 with Taylor Swift a close 2nd. Toby’s chart-topping hits combined with his tours, his bars, his record label, and now his own liquor, on top of his multi-million dollar endorsement contracts he is a money-making juggernaut.
And speaking of liquor, the gang discussed the fact that many distilled spirits made “by hand in small batches” by micro-distilleries are for the most part made in a huge factory in Indiana. Good or bad?
Don’t forget to donate to our GoFundMe page so we can upgrade our equipment and bring you a better pod!
Until next week, Junkies!
