Pre-Internet
The pod started with a discussion about how much easier it is for an aspiring artist to find an audience than it was pre-internet. We spoke about how bands like Iron Maiden or Slayer got virtually no exposure on the radio, save for play on a midnight heavy metal radio hour or on MTV at one in the morning. Current stars like Justin Bieber & Rebecca Black have taken advantage of the social media platform and became huge sensations.

MattyV has been listening to a lot of “blue” comedians from the 1960’s including Redd Foxx, Flip Wilson, & Slappy White. Often only peppered with cuss words, these comedians knew how to tell hilarious dirty jokes without having to swear. These days it seems like comedians use cuss words to be funny instead of actual jokes…

Sunday Cinema – “Grams Bear’s Thanksgiving Surprise”
Yes, even the pop culture icons The Care Bears got into the act when it comes to Thanksgiving specials. In this two-part episode (!), Grams Bear has to muster all she can to help defeat Sour Sam the Pie Man as he passes around his “crabby apple pies” in the hopes of ruining Thanksgiving. I can’t make this stuff up…

There are rules when it comes to voting in elections. Dan the Man mentioned that there are those that feel a photo ID as a requirement to vote only discourages those that do not drive or are uneducated. Other than a photo ID, some other items may be used to prove identity. And really, the cost and requirements to get a state ID are minimal.
Wheeler Dealers is the latest show MattyV has been checking out. It’s what Counting Cars used to be & what Pimp My Ride never was.
Neil Gaiman’s “Good Omens” is a recommended read from Dan the Man, as well as “American Gods“. Although “Sandman” didn’t receive a Pulitzer, it did find some success in a television program. “Lucifer” on CBS is based on the same character from “Sandman”…
“Deadpool Killustrated” is the last comic series that MattyV has completed. GI Joe issue 21, “Silent Interlude” is unusual in the fact that there is no dialogue in the entire issue. Someone posted a video going through the comic with music & sound effects.
We visited Summit Comics & Games in Lansing and was impressed. Definitely will warrant a return visit. MattyV passed on the Dazzler/Howard the Duck Minimates and he’s kicking himself.
Dan was HUGE into GI Joe growing up, he boasted owning several vehicles and many figures. Here is an article of some of the weirdest GI Joe vehicles & playsets! MattyV enjoyed the Max Rebo Band from “Return of the Jedi”.

MattyV shared his dad’s “Blizzard of ’78” story…
This time of year was magical for those of us that grew up in the 1970’s & 1980’s. This was the time of year that the department stores would send out their catalogs. Sears was the sh*t with their “Wish Book”, aptly named as we wished for many things within its pages for Christmas.
Kool-Aid has had some interesting flavors that have since been retired.
Someone posted the entire gameplay for Star Wars:The Arcade Game that Dan remembered fondly…
Gunfighter was MattyV’s first video game arcade experience. Dan the Man loved the immersive games like Sea Wolf…
We are becoming so PC-crazy, Hilary Duff was blasted for wearing a pilgrim/Native American couples costume. Geez…

Sunday Cinema – “The Mayflower Voyagers”
Everyone is familiar with the original Thanksgiving special from Peanuts, but few are familiar with the mini-series that aired from 1988-1989 entitled “This is America, Charlie Brown”. The series took several important historical events in our nation’s history and retold them using the Peanuts gang.
The first of the series took on the task of telling the tale of the pilgrims and their voyage to America. Later episodes looked at the birth of the constitution, the birth of flight, and even took on space.
The annual tradition is with the original special, but why not give this episode from the mini-series a chance?

Sunday Cinema – “A Garfield Thanksgiving”
I hope you’re catching a theme here with this month’s “Sunday Cinema”! Yep, we’re doing cartoon Thanksgiving specials! That lovable cat Garfield found fame first in the newspaper with a comic strip and then exploded onto television, books, merchandise, and even feature films! This is one of many holiday-themed specials that Garfield put out during his more popular years in the late 1980’s.
Someone posted this cute cartoon online for all to enjoy!
Dr. Magic
Jay joins the conversation first and discusses some fan theories about “The Walking Dead” and this article on how to dress like Glenn Rhee…
MattyV is a doofus and didn’t do his homework prior to the movie, so he rambled on showing his vast knowledge of nothing when it comes to Dr. Strange.
MattyV & Dan the Man head into the cinema again to check out the majesty that is “Dr. Strange“. One of the most-anticipated Marvel Studios movies to date, it is a film that brings one more facet to the “Infinity War” story line.
Oddly enough, this isn’t the first film starring the good doctor. Back in 1978 CBS attempted to bring Dr. Strange to the small screen with a 2 hour TV movie pilot developed with Steve Ditko & Stan Lee. Unfortunately, the pilot was never picked up. Filled with cheesy effects and even cheesier mustaches, someone posted a copy to YouTube for fans to check out. Later, in 1992 the rights were optioned and lost. The film was released under the title, “Dr. Mordrid“…
Nerdist has been covering Dr. Strange over the past year, sharing some interesting stuff like their “9 Weird Facts” & how he fits into the MCU.
Jay gives a resounding endorsement with admitting he would spend his own money to see the movie!
A spoiler-free podcast, so no fear if you haven’t seen the movie -we haven’t spoiled anything! Oh, but do stay at the movie until the very end. THE VERY END…

Sunday Cinema – “BC’s First Thanksgiving”
BC was one of the most popular comic strips across the country for many years. Featuring the likes of BC, Peter, & Thor, it followed a tribe of cavemen (and cavewomen!) and often took jabs at the political/social/religious issues of the day. Back in 1973, NBC debuted the first of 2 BC-themed holiday cartoons (the other being a Christmas special that aired on HBO).
Someone posted a clean copy of this Thanksgiving special on YouTube for all to savor!

Among the more interesting trash left on Ben Nevis mountain in the UK have been a 2 foot cross, prayer flags, & a pink vibrator…
Man posing as a Walmart employee relieves cashier, completes a customer transaction, & empties the register. I can hear the clanging of his big brass balls from here…
Forget self-driving cars & semi-trucks, Walmart received a patent for self-driving shopping carts. You would use a smartphone to request one & they would automatically corral themselves back into the store after use.
What happens when you give a homeless man $100,000 risk-free? He becomes homeless, more depressed, & even worse off than before he received the money.
The charity cites the “You Snooze, You Lose” portion of their rules when an Alberta father loses out on a $69,000 50/50 raffle from an Edmonton Oilers game. He had 48 hours to claim the money according to the rules, otherwise the charity could reinvest the funds back into itself… Hmmmm, kinda shady…
