Sunday Cinema – Changing a Tire

tire

This month we are doing a sort of PSA on skills that you may want to pick up in the new year. Everyone talks about reading more, or exercising more, or saving money but no one chooses practical skills. So enjoy this month of new skills to learn!

There are now “parties” where you can go and drink wine while learning how to sew a button or bleach your clothes. We’ve become such a consumer-focused society that we would rather throw something out rather than fix it or call a professional instead of handling minor issues that with a little time and research can be done ourselves.

One thing that we rely too much on is roadside assistance when we get flat tires or need a jumpstart. The folks at Howdini have many helpful videos on doing everything from baking cakes to taking care of a new puppy.

This video has close to 1.5 million views, so I think it’s pretty informative. If you’ve seen the photo floating around of the person who used everything from a crowbar to a chisel in order to remove their tire (makes me cringe every time I see it), this is the “proper” way to do it

Sunday Cinema – Tying a Bow Tie

tie

Sure this one may be for the men, but women can benefit from this as well. What’s sexier than a woman tying your bow tie, think “50 Shades of Grey”…

Again, we live in a society of clip-on ties. This video from Howcast has gotten over 5 million views and I can see why. Learning to tie a bow tie from someone at a REAL gentlemen’s shop is interesting indeed…

And so…

And so…

I messed up. The raw footage for today’s podcast is long-lost to the ether, deleted by accident. At least here are some of the talking points we made during that pod…

We mourn the loss of ‘Fast’ Eddie Clarke, guitarist for Motorhead & founding member of Fastway.

First it was leniency on sexual orientation. Then leniency on tattoos. Now physical standards are finding leeway when it comes to joining the armed forces because physically-fit recruits are hard to find…

An airline (that doesn’t exist) is in need of flight attendants for their Vegas-to-Area-51 route (which doesn’t exist)…

Physically able to work and on Medicaid? Get ready to work/volunteer/educate yourselves thanks to the government allowing states the requirement for Medicare recipients.

Walmart throws its employees a bone thanks to the huge tax cut from the government. “Trickle-down economics” at work?? On the flipside, they’re closing a bunch of Sam’s Club stores. Coincidence?

An acting school that “conveniently” shut-down last year? 4 accusers are students of the former school? Come on, James

If you don’t know who Matty Matheson is, you need to find out

And you think Costco couldn’t get any more awesome… The story behind the $1.50 hot dog combo

The “Tide Pods” meme is getting old and it just recently started…

Sunday Cinema – “Baking Rolls”

Roll

This month we are doing a sort of PSA on skills that you may want to pick up in the new year. Everyone talks about reading more, or exercising more, or saving money but no one chooses practical skills. So enjoy this month of new skills to learn!

Bread making is something that many of us take for granted. It’s easier to get a loaf at the local supermarket or bakery, for those that want to “feel” like they’ve accomplished something will opt for frozen dough or refrigerated dough.

The video today from Baking with Mi, she shares her recipe for making dinner rolls that can compete with the rolls you can find at higher-end restaurants. The ingredients simple, prep time okay, learning to make bread/rolls without an electronic bread maker is certainly a pretty good skill to have.

The Digital Dark Age

The Digital Dark Age

MTV ruined several songs for us back in the early 1990’s with their constant airplay (every hour & twice during TRL!) such as:

“One” – Metallica

“Unforgiven (extended)” – Metallica

“Dangerous” – Michael Jackson

“Black or White” – Michael Jackson

Scientists warn that our digital content can become irretrievably lost because there is no physical copies available.

If you believe you have Crohn’s Disease, might want to have a scope done on your intestines. This woman had a Heinz ketchup packet lodged in her intestine that caused her to mimick symptoms of Crohn’s…

With the Disney-Fox merger, one Marvel franchise might not come with it…

Want to own a massage parlor in South Korea (Winter Olympics, y’all!)? You better be visually-impaired

I understand if you gotta take a sh*t, but that’s not a reason to go that fast on Texas highways...

Amazon may be buying Target, bringing their “brick & mortar” vision to a quick reality…

Speaking of reality, there still is a “Sopranos” reality tour that takes you some of the key locations from the series.

California is the latest state to legalize recreational marijuana, which allows out-of-state visitors to purchase it. Michigan may be next (it will be on the ballot for 2018)…

Iceland becomes first country to outlaw pay disparity between men & women. We totally support paying someone for their skills regardless of sex…

Sad but encouraging to know that most venison killed by hunters doesn’t go to waste, nor does it remain a luxury staple for the rich…

Sunday Cinema – “Picking Locks”

Lock

This month we are doing a sort of PSA on skills that you may want to pick up in the new year. Everyone talks about reading more, or exercising more, or saving money but no one chooses practical skills. So enjoy this month of new skills to learn!

YouTube has videos for just about anything, from obscure movies & television shows to changing a tire. One of the more interesting skills to learn is lock-picking. There are a metric ton of videos on lock-picking tools, techniques, so to choose one was hard.

The video today is from Von Malegowski, who’s channel may not have millions of subscribers but who’s lock-picking basics video has hit 5.5 million views. Apparently he knows a bit about picking locks.

Used to, used to, used to…

Used to, used to, used to…

Blimpie’s is the franchise one of the guys chose to start if the money was there (they have sweet red peppers!). Subway has been closing restaurants left & right in 2017, with 2018 not looking much better…

Aluminum frames from Ford need to be serviced by Ford or one of its authorized repair centers (a total of about 1600 country-wide). We assume getting repairs by a non-authorized facility will void any warranty or future claim against Ford.

For many, us guys have lost the “wrench it” mentality where guys would get together and work on each other’s homes or cars. Kinda like an old Roseanne episode

Pauly Shore’s Totally Buff Special” was a huge hit when he was on MTV, he’s still around but his stand up is rather dark & bitter…

Don Rickles, “Mr. Warmth“, is a comedian that will be missed… (your homework is in the link)…

Who would you rather do?” complaints nowadays are that there are too many choices for the game when it comes to television programs…

Violent J in the bonus chapter of “Behind the Paint”, claims he banged Missy Hyatt in the early 2000’s. He said don’t look up her photos now, she hasn’t aged well…

Alice is onboard for playing King Herod in the live-action musical “Jesus Christ Superstar” coming to NBC…

GWAR’s rendition of “West End Girls” & Lemmy’s cover of “Heroes” are interesting…
