X-Force! (well, DP2)…
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS
If the first line of the post doesn’t warn you, we are going to spoil the crap out of “Deadpool 2”.
J & Matty saw the movie without Dan the Man and both walked out with different feelings. Both definitely give it 2 thumbs up and will probably see it again before it leaves theaters. The driving force of the story line had both gents a bit on the “meh” side as compared to the original. Dan the Man concurs and we weren’t the only ones…
Matty & Dan the Man remember X-Force fondly (both have sealed copies of all 5 first issue covers), but the line up had changed many time over the years. The movie picks out some of the more memorable (and less memorable) characters from the series…
There were a few cameos of note for fans with Brad Pitt being the one most people missed (he was Vanisher). Nerdist failed at their guesses…
The main baddie, returning to the X-Men universe, was spoiled a couple of weeks ago…
Here’s some Easter eggs you might have missed in DP2…
And lastly, it’s not the size that matters – it’s what you talk about with it…

Sunday Cinema – “Married to the Kellys”
Back in 2003, a “fish out of water” sitcom premiered on ABC in the hopes of becoming the next “Dharma & Greg” or at least a small screen adaptation of the movie, “Meet the Parents”. Tom is a born & bred New Yorker who fell in love and married Susan. Being a freelance writer, Tom decides to move to Kansas so that his new bride can be closer to her family. What he doesn’t realize is how foreign Mid-westerners can seem.
There are a few stars, Breckin Meyer (“Road Trip”, “Franklin & Bash”), Josh Braaten (“Semi-Pro”), Richard Riehle (“Grounded for Life”, “Office Space”), and a young Derek Waters before he hit it big with his comedy series “Drunk History”.
It lasted a full season, but America was apparently tired of the Mid-westerners making fun of New Yorkers & vice-versa. Someone posted a bunch of episodes online, this one having to do with barbeques…

Sunday Cinema – “Ferris Bueller”
Rounding out this month of TV shows “out of time” is this one from 1990. Traditional television networks were desperate to compete against the then-fledgling Fox network who began dominating the ratings with such shows as “Beverly Hills 90210”, “The Simpsons”, & “Parker Lewis Can’t Lose”. One of the answers was to transfer movie properties to the small screen, with “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” being a logical candidate. The slacker-vibe and quick wit of Ferris combined with foil of a rabid principal, it could have been the making of a great sitcom. Unfortunately, moving the the location of the show from Chicago to sunny California was I believe one of the downfalls of the show. People in the Midwest were looking to connect with the Chicago-based Ferris because it was familiar. The show lasted 1/2 a season before being canceled.
One of the bright spots of the series was a young Jennifer Aniston before she became a huge hit on NBC’s “Friends” and even before her debut in the movie “Leprechaun”. Someone posted episodes online, with this one being the pilot…

Sunday Cinema – “Whiz Kids”
Hot off his stint as Albert on “Little House on the Prairie”, Matthew Labyorteaux starred in this short-lived television series about a group of intelligent kids and their adventures solving crime. Trying to cash in on the popularity of the movie “War Games” and the up-and-coming technological age, this show was way ahead of its time. Most people across the country back in 1983 didn’t own a computer, so a major portion of the viewing audience didn’t have a connection to the content of the show and unfortunately the scripting or guest stars weren’t enough to keep them. The show lasted for 18 episodes, with today’s selection being the last.
In this episode, Alice puts herself in danger after overhearing the plans for a crime come over the drive-thru speaker at her job. It’s up to a news reporter and the gang to stop the perpetrators. Someone posted this gem online to enjoy…

Sunday Cinema – “Misfits of Science”
All this month we’re going to look at television series that may have been way before their time. Often these shows were canceled due to low ratings, not because of their content.
“Misfits of Science” came out as a mid-season release and lasted a whole 15 episodes before being canceled due to low ratings (it aired opposite “Dallas”). The final episode was never aired in the United States but did air in Germany & France.
Dr. Billy Hayes, a research scientist at Humanidyne – specializes in “human anomalies”. The anomalies range from a “shrinking man”, a telekinetic teen, and “Beef/Ice Man”, a scientist that cryogenically froze himself in 1937 after his love, Amelia Earhart, went missing. “Beef/Ice Man” was written out of the show after the pilot episode due to a lawsuit from Marvel Comics claiming rights to the name “Ice Man”. His memory lived on in the show as the vehicle the misfits drove around in was an ice cream truck (“Beef” needed to be kept cool otherwise he would die).
Of all the old series that television networks are considering a revival, we have the technology and the audience to make “Misfits of Science” a popular show…
Someone, it looks like, posted a clean DVD-quality copy of the double-episode pilot online…
