Sunday Cinema – "Pinwheel"

All this month we are going to pay tribute to the golden era of Nickelodeon television – the 1980’s. Nickelodeon was the first kids network on cable television. With programming in the morning & early afternoon for the toddler/kindergarten set and pre-teen/teen programming after school and in the evening, the channel was a HUGE hit. Sadly it began its slow slide in the late 1990’s as more & more children-focused channels began popping up along with the advent of the internet.
What do you call a Sesame Street knock-off from Canada that takes place in a boarding house that’s owned by a gypsy psychic? Pinwheel, that’s what you’d call it. This children’s show featured many similar characters from a door-to-door fruit & vegetable seller (in lieu of Mr. Hooper), a pair of boys who got into mischief (in lieu of Bert & Ernie), even a crotchety old man who’s skin color was green (Oscar the Grouch, anyone?).
Following a similar format to early Sesame street, this show was on for 5 hours every weekday morning teaching kids about different life lessons/nature/etc. with music & cartoons mixed in as well. Eventually the show’s time was cut back to just a few hours before being taken completely off the air.
Someone posted one hour of the show online for people to witness & enjoy…
Sunday Cinema – “Turkey Television”

All this month we are going to pay tribute to the golden era of Nickelodeon television – the 1980’s. Nickelodeon was the first kids network on cable television. With programming in the morning & early afternoon for the toddler/kindergarten set and pre-teen/teen programming after school and in the evening, the channel was a HUGE hit. Sadly it began its slow slide in the late 1990’s as more & more children-focused channels began popping up along with the advent of the internet.
Just as with it’s adult counterpart, Saturday Night Live, the Nickelodeon program You Can’t Do That On Television had cast turnovers each season with only a handful of cast members who made it through the 10th and final season. Turkey Television was created by a few of the phased-out cast members in the hopes of continuing their acting careers on the network. A clip/sketch show, TT would show original skits as well as clips from movies & comedy clubs. It lasted only a few episodes before being cancelled due to low ratings.
Someone posted a recorded VHS copy online for you to witness it’s quirkiness…
Sunday Cinema – “Today’s Special”

All this month we are going to pay tribute to the golden era of Nickelodeon television – the 1980’s. Nickelodeon was the first kids network on cable television. With programming in the morning & early afternoon for the toddler/kindergarten set and pre-teen/teen programming after school and in the evening, the channel was a HUGE hit. One of the toddler/kindergarten offerings, Today’s Special was a Canadian-based show that took place after-hours at a department store. Jody works for the department store creating merchandise displays, mainly in the children’s department. Sam is an elderly night watchman, Muffy is a spoiled-brat mouse. And then there’s Jeff, the department store mannequin that comes to life each night. Each episode is based on a theme that carries through Jody’s job of creating the displays based on the theme. Jeff is an eager learner, wanting to learn about everything. Cheesy as it may sound, it lasted 7 seasons and taught many children around the world.

Read the Code
I think they wanted attention for the tattoo business, if he actually read the city code he wouldn’t have pursued it…
I have to agree, Millie Bobby Brown does look like a young Elizabeth Perkins…
Product placement in movies/television shows are still a big thing. Apparently you can now tell who is a villain by what cell phone they carry…
A desperate attempt at a fashion brand to be relevant?
A potential recipe for disaster. It may be a little early to call, but let’s be realistic…
Could this be worse than Jackson’s Super Bowl “breastacle”?

Sunday Cinema – “Out of Control”

All this month we are going to pay tribute to the golden era of Nickelodeon television – the 1980’s. Nickelodeon was the first kids network on cable television. Out of Control was a sketch/clip show starring “Uncle Joey” Dave Coulier. Essentially a parody of a talk/news show, Dave along with reporters Hern Burford & Angela “Scoop” Quigley presented all sorts of odd stories & humor that appealed to the teen crowds. Throw in ditzy floor manager Diz and creepy maintenance guy Waldo and you’ve got one strange mix. It lasted 18 episodes yet it lived for several years in reruns on the channel.
