Sunday Cinema – “90’s Christmas Commercials”

Kids today are spoiled, access to just about anything they want is at their fingertips via the internet. No need to go to a store, read a Wish Book, or watch a commercial to come up with their Christmas lists. Back in the day we had the Sears Wish Book, store displays, & beloved commercials to get our minds a-working on what treasures we wanted for Christmas.

The 7UP commercial in this batch of 1990’s Christmas commercials reminds me of that good punch my inlaws made using 7Up, Ocean Spray CranGrape juice and raspberry sherbet…

Man, the nostalgia of watching this hour of Christmas commercials from the 1980’s really tug at the old heartstrings…

Tell Us a New Story

Tell Us a New Story

The first half hour of the pod is dedicated to the loss of some of the guys’ pets in recent weeks. If you have a “furbaby” at home, you know how we feel when we lose one of them. They lived a good life, Jackie was very happy living with us once we brought him home from the pound.

“The Walking Dead: World Beyond” wrapped up its first of 2 seasons that will apparently seamlessly (hopefully) transition into 3 original “Walking Dead” films involving Rick Grimes.

Don’t rehash stories. Tell us new stories like with “Spiderman: Homecoming” or introducing Miles Morales in “Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse”. Tell us stories about RiRi Williams as Ironheart (successor to Ironman), or what about the Black Panther successor, Shuri?

Big doings are happening in “The Mandalorian”, the second season is getting good. It’s nice to have notable actors in the series but unless you obscure their faces/features otherwise they take you out of the fantasy…

“Lone Wolf and Cub” was a manga series created in 1970’s Japan that became so popular that it spawned a television series, a few movies, and was introduced to America in the late 1980’s through First Comics

My Man Godfrey” is a pretty funny tale from 1936 starring Carole Lombard. I think they could remake it today (the horror!), we have buffoonery “reality” television shows that kind of mirror the premise of the film (high society rich people not living in the reality of how the country operates)…

“Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” was released straight to the Amazon Prime streaming service rather than into theaters due to the pandemic. It actually garnered a lower score than the original from 2006. People really fell for one of the innocent persons duped by the film. The “moral compass” babysitter only received $3,600 for her scenes but people set up a GoFundMe for her that gave her an additional $144,000. Sacha Baron Cohen has pledged $100,000 to help her community later on…

Forget cable television and all the political & negative crap, do a YouTube search for 70’s & 80’s television when swearing was forbidden and sexual innuendo was rare. Check out “Life Goes On“…
