Sunday Cinema – “McHale’s Navy”

Since there is a corny dad joke this month (“What is the military’s favorite day? March 4th!”), Sunday Cinema will be looking at obscure military television shows from the past.

McHale’s Navy is all about the crew of PT-73 under the command of Quinton McHale (Ernest Borgnine). Rule-breakers and heart-takers, the crew were known as one of the best fighting units in the South Pacific. The show started the careers of Ernest Borgnine, Tim Conway (The Carol Burnett Show), & Gavin MacLeod (The Love Boat). It lasted 4 seasons and received a 1997 remake movie starring Tom Arnold as McHale.

Even after Dolly formally requested that she be removed from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee ballot, they are keeping her on it. Even she says she doesn’t deserve to be inducted…

We wonder how many were fooled

Netflix is testing the waters in charging for streaming their service outside your home. $3/mo will be charged in Chile, Costa Rica, & Peru. If implemented in America, this could affect a lot of people…

Sunday Cinema – “Combat!”

Combat! was a 1960’s television series focusing in on an American infantry unit making their way across Europe during World War II. Starring Vic Morrow (“Bad News Bears” & “Twilight Zone: The Movie”), it lasted 5 seasons.

Sunday Cinema – “The Phil Silvers Show”

Since there is a corny dad joke this month (“What is the military’s favorite day? March 4th!”), Sunday Cinema will be looking at obscure military television shows from the past.

The Phil Silvers Show stars Phil Silvers (of course!) as Master Sergeant Ernie Bilko who runs the motor pool at a small camp in Kansas. More interested in making money than running a motor pool, each week he comes up with a new scheme with his recruits to earn some dough. It lasted 4 seasons and was another victim of the late-1990’s movie remakes with Steve Martin as Bilko.

Interesting article about Metallica opening for Saxon back in 1982

Metallica’s story in VH1’s Behind The Music is one of the better ones, the death of Cliff was heartbreaking…

Waylon Jennings gave up his seat to “The Big Bopper” & Ritchie Valens got Dion’s seat (Dion couldn’t see paying $36 – what his parents’ paid in rent at the time – for a seat on the plane).

Sunday Cinema – “The Rat Patrol”

Since there is a corny dad joke this month (“What is the military’s favorite day? March 4th!”), Sunday Cinema will be looking at obscure military television shows from the past.

The Rat Patrol follows a team of commandos as they fight the Nazis in the deserts of North Africa during World War II. Teaming up from time to time with one of their nemeses, this show was popular but only lasted 2 seasons.
