Sunday Cinema – “Eye of the Tiger”

All this month on “Sunday Cinema” we will be showcasing biker movies with connections – actor connections, that is. Each of the movies will contain an actor (or actors) that starred in one of the other movies.
Gary Busey stars as a Vietnam vet released from prison only to find his beloved hometown has been overtaken by a motorcycle gang. Also starring Yaphet Kotto (“Alien”, “Brubaker”, “A Nightmare on Elm Street: Freddy’s Dead”), it also stars an actor from one of our other “Sunday Cinema” picks for this month – William Smith (“Chrome & Hot Leather”). The film was produces by Scotti Brothers Records & contains the song, “Eye of the Tiger” as the movie’s main theme song.

Known as “Savage Dawn” in the United States, it tells the tale of a Vietnam vet, his friend, & a few locals going to battle against a murderous biker gang. Starring Lance Henricksen, George Kennedy, Karen Black, & William Forsythe, an interesting film to boot. Lance & William also star in another of our “Sunday Cinema” choices about biker gangs (“Stone Cold”).
Someone posted the German titled version (film is in English) online to watch…

A Green Beret returns home from Vietnam to find a biker gang has killed the woman he loves. Calling on his fellow Green Berets, he takes revenge on the gang. The film stars a few character actors from television & film but the standouts are musicians Marvin Gaye (yes, THAT Marvin Gaye) & Bobby “Boris” Pickett (writer & performer of the classic, “Monster Mash”).

Dan the Man’s story of his daughter’s car seat adjustment reminded me of this scene from “Planes, Trains, & Automobiles”…
“Dark Night of the Scarecrow” was a “PG” horror movie that originally aired on CBS. Even though there is no real gore/nudity/foul language, it is certainly a VERY scary movie. You can watch it on Shudder, Peacock, or Tubi TV. A poorly-done sequel apparently was released in 2022…
MattyV seems to be late to the party when it comes to television shows (“Seinfeld”, “Everybody Loves Raymond”, etc.) and it’s no different with “Bob’s Burgers” which has a commitment to a 14th & 15th season. Dan the Man pointed out that H. John Benjamin (who voices Bob Belcher) also did the voice of Archer on the adult cartoon show of the same name. Here is a clip from “Archer” where the title character lives as Bob Belcher…
We’ve shared articles over the past 10 years or so from I-Mockery, a funny pop culture humor site run by Roger Barr. Almost 6 years ago he lost his wife of 20 years to suicide. Since her death, he has gone on a journey to spread her ashes all over the world. His journey ended last fall and he documented everything here…
Dan the Man’s mom offered up a poigniant observation among the lyrics for the song, “How Will I Laugh Tomorrow” by Suicidal Tendencies…
A fan theory has posited that the drummers for the fictional band had been the creative drivers of the band & with each new drummer the band changed musical direction…

Former Linebacker Brian “Boz” Bosworth stars as Joe Huff, a rogue Alabama cop chosen by the FBI to infiltrate a biker gang headed by “Chains” Cooper (Lance Henricksen). A strong start to his film career, the movie had a spiritual sequel (“Back in Business”). 80’s action (although released in 1991), lots of catchphrases, & some T&A as well…
Someone posted this action-packed joy ride online for all to partake…
