Sunday Cinema – “Anthrax”

This month is Dan the Man’s birthday month, so in celebration we are going to share some of his music & television favorites!

I remember Dan introducing me to Anthrax back in high school. They didn’t get any airplay on the music stations I listened to, their speed metal was dizzying to listen to. Back in the late 1990’s/early 2000’s, VH1 had a documentary series that went behind the music and dug deeper into different bands. Anthrax was blessed with an episode…

Someone apparently digitized a videotaped copy and posted it online…

Songs to Remember

Songs to Remember

This week we talked about how songs can be imprinted with memories that in turn are brought up when we hear the song again. Movies are a great example, music directors for films often use songs to add to the mood of a particular scene. Here are a few that we came up with:

? and the Mysterians, “96 Tears” – electric shock scene in the story “Quitters, Inc.” from the movie, “Stephen King’s Cat’s Eye”

Celine Dion, “My Heart Will Go On” – the final scene from the movie “Titanic

Journey, “Don’t Stop Believing” – the final scene for the series “The Sopranos

Simple Minds, “(Don’t You) Forget About Me” – the final scene from the movie “The Breakfast Club

Peter Gabriel, “In Your Eyes” – the boombox serenade scene from the movie “Say Anything

There are some songs that are acquainted with the whole movie, either through the marketing of the movie or the popularity of the song. Here are some of those examples:

Dick Dale, “Misirlou” – “Pulp Fiction

Wham!, “Careless Whisper” – “Deadpool

Berlin, “Take My Breath Away” – “Top Gun

Survivor, “Eye of the Tiger” – “Rocky III

Sunday Cinema – “Great Big Sea”

This month is Dan the Man’s birthday month, so in celebration we are going to share some of his music & television favorites!

Kind of a shocker to me knowing Dan the Man was heavily into metal music, the folk rhythms of Great Big Sea is not something I thought he would be into. This was a part of an MSN broadcast in 2004 from a venue in Toronto.

Someone captured the performance and posted it online…

Sunday Cinema – “G.I. Joe”

This month is Dan the Man’s birthday month, so in celebration we are going to share some of his music & television favorites!

The original series from the 1980’s was iconic for those of us who grew up in that era. Even though the cartoon was just an advertisement for the toys, the varied characters & vehicles were mesmerizing.

Hasbro has released all the original episodes for you to enjoy!

Sunday Cinema – “Motörhead”

This month is Dan the Man’s birthday month, so in celebration we are going to share some of his music & television favorites!

Dan has told the story of buying Lemmy a Jack & Coke before a concert & getting acknowledged onstage for it. It was an amazing night and with Lemmy gone it makes the story that much more special. This is “The Birthday Party” concert from 1985 celebrating their 10th anniversary at the Hammersmith Odeon.

Someone posted the entire concert online for all to enjoy!
